Why do people complain about this game being cutscene-heavy? Are people’s attention spans that short nowadays? This is nothing compared to stuff like the original Final Fantasy X or Kingdom Hearts, with their unskippable cutscenes that were much longer (yeah yeah, he’ll never take Kairi’s heart, I get it). I’m really satisfied with the amount of cutscenes this game has, and I honestly don’t get why it’s such an issue for some people. Go play some text-heavy SNES or PS1 games. I highly doubt you’ll complain about this game’s cutscenes afterwards. Oh, and “really satisfied” is how I could describe my whole experience with this game so far (12 hours in as of writing this). The graphics are gorgeous, gameplay is incredibly fun, the main characters are likable, and the story is really enjoyable so far. And the freaking music! My one critique is that the English localization is not very good. There are plenty of grammar errors and sentences that just sound unnatural in English (likely caused by directly translating from Mandarin, word for word), but it doesn’t take away from the enjoyment of the game and sometimes even adds some unintentional humor. Though there were a few side-quests during which I wasn’t even fully sure what I was doing because the English was almost completely unintelligible. But this has only happened with a few side-quests so far. You’ll get what’s happening in the story, even with the imperfect translation. There is a lot of potential here. I’m ignorant when it comes to the Chinese gaming market, but from what I hear this series is pretty much legendary there. I’ve heard people refer to it as the Chinese Final Fantasy, and honestly, yeah, I see that. But it’s barely known outside of China, which is a shame. Fix the translations, do some more marketing, and I think this series could do incredibly well internationally.
